How energy efficient is your home?

Did you know that homes that rate as energy efficient are eligible to apply for Energy Efficient Mortgages (EEMs) which allow a buyer to qualify for a larger mortgage. Also, owners of existing homes may include the cost of energy improvements in the mortgage. Contact ARE for more information on EEMs.

 

Q. What is an Energy Audit? 

A. An ARE trained and certified professional reviews your home to identify its energy characteristics; such as insulation levels, window efficiency, wall-to-window ratios, building envelope and heat loss characteristics, the heating and cooling system efficiency, the solar orientation of the home, and the water heating system and indoor air quality. Performance testing, such as a blower door test for air and duct leakage, is usually part of the rating.

Your Energy Audit will involve:

  • Blower Door Test
  • Utility Bills Analysis
  • Evaluation of existing energy equipment
  • Evaluation of electrical system/s
  • Evaluation of the building envelope, ventilation system, and indoor air quality
  • Location and report of energy savings opportunities and identification of thermal or infiltration issues.
  • Feasibility report for solar thermal, geothermal and PV.
  • 'Smart' Thermostat (Option)

We create this report with industry specific software and our own methodology.
